Marta and Chester's Maleficent Adventures

TR: 2026-07-24 – Peak 2120 – Yukon (Tungsten Area)

We wake up to +6C. What a relief. No mosquitos. I take it. Lower temperature is good, but it also rained at night on and off. And the weather forecast for today is unsettled. Not too much rain, but some for sure. We decide to stick to our plan with Peak 2120 and connecting ridges. Forecasting weather in this area is hard. Mountains, and mountain ranges result in less accuracy. It may rain few kilometers away, rather than where we are or so we hope.

This was the plan from previous day. We just have to make it to bottom of red line
Frankly it was not too bad. Some ups and downs to add to the elevation gain. Some bushwhack to add spice to our day, some rain drops, but not heavy enough to turn us around
Chester is standing at the bottom of the red line. Ground it perfect. Let’s the hike begin.

Vegetation here is pretty.
Easy going up. Chester is at the centre of the photo.
Still really good. Shale is good to hike on.
Summit is flat.

Unfortunately fog arrives at the summit with us. We have a decision to make, descend or continue. We decide to continue. As we descend towards the col is starts raining. It is windy and cold. We put on raingear and continue to the col. It is getting worse. As we reach the col we both independently decide to drop down from the col. We scouted the route from the col, as we went up. Should be OK, and it is. I do not take any photos on our descend, until the rain stops. My model of iPhone has no snorkel.

Sky clears until we get back to the car.
So we can stop and admire the beautiful garden of Eden, or Yukon to be exact.

From here we just have another hour to the car. We dry out and get wet again, due to another round of rain and wet vegetation. It is good to be back at the car!
